The development of the Skyos operating system began in 1996. December 1997 saw the release of Skyos in its initial iteration. Until version 4.x was released, the skyos OS was publicly accessible. Starting with the SkyOS 5 development beta in 2003, customers had to pay US$30 to access beta versions. In 2006, SkyOS added capability for desktop compositing with transparency and double buffering to its updated graphics subsystem. In 2004, SkyOS implemented a new file system called SkyFS, which was derived from OpenBFS. At same time, it also moved to ELF binaries. After the release of the most recent Skyos beta version (6947) in August 2008, there was a lengthy period without any updates.
Robert was mostly responsible for creating the skyos OS.
